This year has been exhausting due to all the negativity and pessimism that I hear on a daily basis.
It’s easy to blame external factors for our struggles and sometimes those outside forces do play a role. Social media amplifies these feelings, creating a cycle of fear, anger, and frustration. Most people feel obligated to opine on everything, even if they have no idea about the context or reasoning behind certain things.
“This administration is crazy”, “It’s impossible for me to ever buy a house”, “Everything is so expensive”, “student loans are unmanageable”.
These are all real concerns, but they are just observations.
Amidst all the complaining, I don’t hear many people focusing on things that they can actually control.
The most successful people don’t get derailed by outside forces—they adapt, protect themselves and their families, build momentum, and stay consistent.
They keep showing up.
One of the best ways to regain control is to cultivate gratitude.
Are you healthy? Did you wake up today? Do you have family members still here? Do you have access to food and clean water? A roof over your head? Do you have access to some of the best resources in the world?
Maybe just take a deep breath huh. The world isn’t ending.
Approach life with a sense of abundance which will remind you, we aren’t losing—we already have so much.
Here’s an idea from James Clear:
"Take all the energy you spend on...
worrying about the past
worrying about the future
worrying about what others think
worrying about if you might fail
... and channel that energy into one useful action within your control."
We don’t control everything that happens to us, but we do control how we respond. The key is to show up consistently, keep a level head, and become more understanding in the face of adversity.
Blaming external factors is easy, and then your decisions are driven more by emotions than by values.
Only a select few focus on what they can control: your mindset, your habits, and your responses.
Prioritize yourself so that you can then help others. Be a good person, a good family member, and someone who makes your community stronger. Choose resilience over reactivity. Choose consistency over chaos.
Keep an open mind and embrace change when necessary. Growth often comes from stepping outside of our comfort zones and adapting to new realities.
The world will always have uncertainty, you will never have all the answers, but be the type of person who continues to show up…
