How to Automate Your Life
“Be the designer of your world and not merely the consumer of it.” - James Clear
The most successful people I know are those that put a priority on their time.
Life is full of distractions and typically gets worse as you age. You end up being pulled in so many different directions.
There are simply not enough hours in the day and we can become so overwhelmed with the amount of choices that we ultimately don’t end up taking action.
That is why we need to try and automate our lives to the best of our abilities.
Automation allows us to reduce the number of daily decisions we make. We must clear our mind from clutter.
Less decisions frees up time for creativity, alone time, problem solving, enjoyment.
So, how can you automate your life?
When you receive your paycheck, there are endless options with how you can use that money.
This chart, provided by Ramit Sethi, is a great visual that highlights how you can automate your money:
Without thinking, you have taken your paycheck and addressed life’s buckets.
Similar to what I’ve mentioned in the past, don’t become a robot when it comes to your money.
Even if you implement a few of the above automation recommendation techniques, you are putting yourself on the path to success.
Remember - if you have the ability to save at least 10% of your income consistently, you are on your way to becoming wealthy.
Other areas you can automate:
Paying bills - Put all of your bills (if possible) on your credit card and then pay your balance off in full at the end of the month. This avoids any late payments and is easier to track your activity.
Buying groceries - I’ve become a Hello Fresh advocate as I like to cook but don’t have the time/energy to go to the grocery store. By having a box delivered to my house with recipes and all the essentials, that saves me time.
Except when I forget to edit my order constantly and have turkey and bean chili delivered during the middle of the summer…
Shopping - This is one I would watch as I’d imagine it’s easy to get carried away. But if you are able to utilize subscription services, such as Amazon, you won’t have to go to the store for basic toiletries.
As James Clear points out in his book ‘Atomic Habits’: habit formation is the process by which a behavior becomes progressively more automatic through repetition.
By automating our lives, we are creating routines that are performed without thought.
You should always be looking for ways to save yourself time, because that is by far the most important asset we have.
Therefore, we need to maximize our time just like we want to maximize our return.
Don’t leave it up to chance. Automate your life today.
